Maths

In year 1, we practise reading, writing and counting with numbers to 100. You can do lots of practise of this at home!

We also practise counting in 2s, 5s and 10s. Remember you can log on to TT Rockstars to practise this.

We have also sent you a MyMaths username and passwords to access more maths activities online. We will be uploading more activities for this week!

Practise writing numbers to 20 in words.

This week we are thinking about: arrays and doubling:

Please use the maths hub resources/sheets this week. These can be found below.

Underneath for each day will be other activities that can be done.

Day 1

Arrays:

Lay out objects that you have at home in rows of 2’s, 5’s and 10’s e.g

How many are here? Can you count them in 2’s? Can you write and repeated addition for this e.g 2+2+2 = 6

Maths hub sheet to complete with more questions on, than can be done over day 1 and 2.

Day 2

Array

Repeat yesterday’s activity but doing it the opposite way. Giving the repeated addition first and asking the child to make this by drawing or placing objects to match. 5 + 5 + 5 = 15, child lays out objects to match in an array.

Day 3

Doubling:

Can you remember what doubling is?

Adding the same 2 numbers together.

Practise this with drawings or objects that you have at home?

Play this online game: https://www.ictgames.com/mobilePage/archeryDoubles/index.html

Day 4

  • How can we share things fairly?

Practise with sharing out objects into 2 groups, 5 groups and 10 groups. Focus only on number that share out fairly.

For children who find this easy, questions such as ‘Tom shared his sweets with 4 friends. He has 20 in total, how many will they all get?’
